Update May 2025

Following on from the former depot building being demolished, and planning approval being granted in March 2023, construction of Cowan’s Close began on 31/03/2025, with main contractor CCG (Scotland) Ltd working alongside the Council to deliver the homes. The project is expected to be complete in Summer 2026

The development will consist of a 4-storey block of 19 one and two bedroomed flats and garden space for residents. All homes will be suitable for wheelchair users with flats on upper floors accessed by lift.

The contractor, CCG, produces a regular construction update newsletter for the community, which has further information on things like site activity, working schedules and community engagement. All newsletters will be available to view on .

Shortage of affordable housing

There is a shortage of affordable / social housing in ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿. For every Council house that becomes available for let there are an average of 192 households ‘bidding’ to get it.

As well as the shortage of affordable housing there is an even greater shortage of adapted homes suitable for people with a disability or who need to use a wheelchair.

The new homes under construction on this site and others around the city are aimed at addressing some of that need.
